This study forms the second phase of the "International Epidemiological Study on Cancer among Asphalt Workers" conducted by IARC and is designed to clarify prior results by identifying the effect of confounding factors. The first phase was completed in 2001.

The study will examine the past exposures and other risk factors such as cigarette smoking for a subset of approximately 2,500 workers of the cohort of 80,000 people in much more detail than has been possible during the first phase of the study and also include their exposures during employment in other industries than the asphalt industry.
